  • I don't use Twitter much, but I like the new owner better than the previous ones. We don't have much activity here so I figured I'd try my hand at embedding a tweet to which I responded today.

Might be a conversation starter, and I'm curious how this looks and works after embedded.

  • Welcome Joshua Hamm to B’nei Moshe! Josh lives in Ecuador and embraces the Samaritan tradition.

I forgot to ask how you found us?

  • I've recently realized that I failed to provide information for the new year in a timely manner! I plan to provide the corrected Samaritan calendar later today. I apologize for this delay!

Update: I may not be able to calculate the entire calendar today, but I can provide the beginning of the year and passover dates:

First day of the year: March 20, 2023 (sundown)

Passover (Pesach): on April 2, 2023 (at twilight)

Feast of Unleavened Bread (Chag HaMatzot): April 3 - 9, 2023 (begins and ends at sundown.)

This year we (B'nei Moshe members) will be a month earlier than the erroneous Samaritan calendar which fixed the vernal equinox to March 25th, failing to take into account the drift of the vernal equinox earlier over the years (albeit very slowly.) Nowadays the vernal equinox falls between March 20th and 21st, and for this reason we begin the year at the first new moon after the true vernal equinox.

    See https://bneimoshe.com/blogs/20/The-Hebrew-Calendar for more details.

  • We've had a rough few years now, and the world seems to be changing in crazy and unbelievable ways. I'm going to offer a few polls to ask questions about peoples' perspectives.

I wonder if certain extra-Torah philosophies are close matches within this small group or not. I think there are certain stances we might want to embrace as a group and encourage to be part of this community.

If we differ widely, that's okay! I'm just wondering if there are sentiments among us that are similar and might become a part of a community's "platform" before we try to build a membership.

Let's begin with a possible controversial poll about Covid-19 vaccines and others:

  • We're now down to a lean, mean 16 members in B'nei Moshe.

The numbers are now about a quarter or less than the highest member count previously, but we're now aligned with the (corrected) Samaritan calendar.

I will be working on the next Hebrew calendar soon! I've just looked up the vernal equinox, and this year the beginning is so close to the VE. In fact the new moon happens at 7:23 PM, while sundown is at 5:50 PM, so the official start of the new year begin at sundown on March 21st, 2023.

I hope to calculate the Neo-Samaritan calendar this coming weekend.

I've not been very active on the site for a bit, but I'll begin seeking new members and marketing the website os encourage new members in the near future.

My business has been consuming much of my time, which I'm working to streamline so I can focus on this more.

  • So, here's the final transition to migrate https://bneimoshe.com

This will become a more close-knit community that is what is classified as "Neo-Samaritan", which lists a few corrected errors in the Samaritan tradition. I will list the few corrections in a comment to avoid distraction in the main post.

The main thing about the community will be these points:

    1. There is yet no official Samaritan proselyte ability other than for converts who live within the Samaritan community in Israel (Mount Gerizim or Holon) for a period of time (usually three years.)

    2. If an official foreign community program is established later, we would mostly be rejected due to the few Samaritan errors.

    3. Nevertheless, we want to associate with like minded people who are Torah Only and accept the Samaritan calendar, so we can coordinate the biblical feasts without calendar arguments.

    4. We also believe YHWH, the creator of all mankind, can mingle with community who do not expect to convert to Israelite people, and simply wish to obey the 10 commandments, follow a clean biblical diet, and observe the feast dates.

For this reason, for approximately the next month, we will accept the simple rules of this community and the biblical calendar (You can see the details at https://bneimoshe.com/blogs/22/Samaritan-Calendar-3660-3661 and https://bneimoshe.com/blogs/20/The-Hebrew-Calendar)

Please feel free to comment, message me directly, and ask any questions! When you are ready to join the community, it will be a simple inclusion of your membership on the website, and you will be set to verified status.

Again, remember that https://torah.social continues with Jacob Eben as a more open social network, so everything continues there. We will become more of a Neo-Samaritan community which will be a cohesive group of fellow Israelites and YHMH believers who are supported by all those associated with B'nei Moshe.

  • Jacob sent an email a few day ago regarding https://torah.social, the new social media and open Torah website. The https://bneimoshe.com website was originally to replace Wordpress (again) but the last minute decision (after Jacob's email) was changed so that the social media network would remain, but go through some changes.

Here's Jacob's summary of the differences at https://torah.social:

"The Bnei Moshe site run by Troy will continue to exist as a Samaritan-type community. Torah.Social will essentially pick up where Bnei Moshe had left off prior and will emphasize adherence to Torah textual views regardless of any particular tradition. This is my understanding of the situation for now."

Essentially the reason for the split is a two part decision: 1) I prefer to favor a particular "Neo-Samaritan" community, and 2) a number of calendar issues stand in the way of the Samaritan calendar, which resolves the issue by accepting only Samaritan leaning membership and the calendar (minus the March 25 error which can be read at https://bneimoshe.com/blogs/20/The-Hebrew-Calendar)

The torah.social website has the full membership, but bneimoshe.com has removed all members that:

    1. Are messianic or christian or listed other than Torah Only known to be "Neo-Samaritan".
    2. Did not activate a few profiles or banned for obvious spam posts.

We now have some membership from long term Samaritan leaning members, as well as a number of unknown members who are Torah Only or a few members who are active and simply unknown about the acceptance of the Samaritan calendar as a community.

I will soon create a post to inquire about a Samaritan leaning community who accepts our calendar as the terms of feast days. Once that is decided over a period of time, other members will continue to be active on torah.social, but not on bneimoshe.com.

  • Synagogue Concerns
For some time I’ve had a few concerns regarding both Jewish and Samaritan synagogues. In this post I will briefly outline them. I’m not necessarily drawing any conclusions at this point, nor am I condemning these practices. I am simply writing about the things which concern me personally. Perhaps they will encourage the reader to contemplate these things as well. A synagogue is...
